'All in the Family' director John Rich passed away at 86

Director John Rich, who is better known for directing 'All in the Family' has died from heart failure at the age of 86 years. The veteran television director passed away at his home on Sunday after a short illness.

The Directors Guild of America announced that the multi-award winning director passed away at his home in Los Angeles on the 29th of January. The president of the organization, Taylor Hackford, in a statement announced that, “We are deeply saddened to learn today of the passing of John Rich. A legendary figure in the history of TV comedy, John tirelessly served our Guild for nearly six decades. He directed some of the most beloved classics of all time and his skills as a television director were unsurpassed, but no matter how busy and successful his career was, John always made time for the DGA.”

Rich is renowned for directing several television shows. Some of the most popular ones include “The Brady Bunch,” “Gilligan’s Island,” “Benson” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” He has been a member of the Screen Directors Guild for almost half a century. Until his death, he was the chairman of the board of the Directors Guild Foundation. He started serving from that position in 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Patty, six children including three stepchildren and eight grandchildren.
