Expert Review :
Rajanna is one of the much awaited films of Tollywood in 2011. Starring Akkineni Nagarjuna, Sneha and the movie is directed by Vijayendra Prasad. The film was made on the real life incidents in Telangana region during the Nizam rule. Nagarjuna has chosen to produce a moving tale set against the freedom struggle and the Razakkar movement, inspired by real events. Vijayendra Prasad also makes an impressive directorial debut with this film where the action sequences were directed by his son S S Rajamouli.

Rajanna is a story based on real life incidents that took place in Telangana in the 50’s and the part of the tale is fabricated with fictional elements. The movie is set in the early 1950's in the village of Nelakondapalli in Adilabad district. The story of the film revolves around the central character Mallamma(Annie), an orphan girl who is being raised by an old man. The girl has a passion to sing and that has been strongly opposed by the Dorasani of the village as she feels that her songs have some intense emotion which can turn the entire village against her. But, poor girl couldn’t stop singing and as a result the dorasani kills the old man, locks the girl inside the house and set it ablaze. The girl escapes the mishap with the help of a music teacher and makes her way to Delhi to meet the then Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru to complain against the atrocities of dorasani. The rest of the movie is all about how the girl meets the Prime Minister and fulfills the villagers and Rajanna’s wish.

New girl Annie performed like a seasoned artiste. First few minutes and the last few minutes belong to Annie. Her stellar performance is the backbone of the film. This young girl has the ability to keep viewers glued to the screen with her incredible performance. Nagarjuna gets into the skin of the character and plays Rajanna with elan. He is exceptional in some songs like Veyyi Veyyi and in the last fight. Swetha Menon has delivered her best in a negative role.Ajay, Pradeep Rawat, Supreet and Sravan, who play Rajanna's friends, fit the parts well. Nasserar has a small role as the music teacher, which he does well. Keeravani brings the soul to the film with his wonderful background score and songs. This is undoubtedly one of the best works of Keeravani in recent times.

Rajanna is a heart touching film told in a wonderful way. Director Vijayendra Prasad should be appreciated for making a good and meaningful film. He brings out best from his technicians and the actors. The film is definitely worth watching. Nagarjuna must also be commended for his faith in the story and for producing such a flick.
